Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Sunday reiterated that the state government has a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related activities.
Speaking at a government event in Dhalai district, CM Saha said, “We have seen recently that a section of girls has got addicted to drugs. Drug abuse through intravenous injection is on the rise in the state. This practice can lead to the spread of HIV/AIDS.” He added that the state was also being used as a corridor for illegal drug trade.
The chief minister informed the audience that the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 198 crore to set up a special de-addiction centre at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district. In addition to this, the state government is also setting up de-addiction centres in all eight districts of Tripura.

He added that drug seizures increased by 103 per cent and destruction of drugs by 132 per cent in 2024-25 in comparison to the previous year.
Meanwhile, CM Saha also stated that his government will honour the tripartite insurgent surrender agreement signed last year by the Centre, the state government, and insurgent outfits – National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) – and fulfill the promises made to the surrendered cadres of both the banned militant groups.
