At least 11 people stabbed at Walmart in US’ Michigan, suspect in custody

Multiple people have been stabbed in a Walmart in United States’ Traverse City in Michigan, as the Michigan State Police said on Saturday that a suspect was in custody while investigation was ongoing.

According to a social media post by Munson Healthcare, at least 11 people were treated at the largest hospital of the region in northern Michigan. Munson Healthcare added that it would provide updates “as appropriate”.

The Michigan State Police said the details regarding the multiple stabbing incident were limited and that the local sheriff’s office, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, was investigating the incident. The authorities urged the people to avoid the area until an investigation was underway.

In a post on Facebook, Munson Healthcare stated “We can confirm that 11 victims are being treated at Munson Medical Center. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients.”

According to a statement by Walmart corporate spokesperson, Joe Pennington, “The company was working with police and defer questions to them right now,” Associated Press reported.

The stabbing took place in Michigan’s Traverse City, which has about 16,000 people and is 410 kilometers northwest of Detroit.
